Last night in the classroom at Pink Castle Fabrics

I taught my first class in the fabulous classroom at Pink Castle Fabrics last night!  It was so much fun.

The class is Improvisational Patchwork (Improv 101) and students are meant to come in with sewing machines and scissors and then just go with the flow (i.e., submit to my will!)  Because the class was small, I decided to piece while not giving instructions and advice, so I have my own patchwork to show for my time (beyond a little bit of money and a lot of satisfaction.)

Look at how much my student, Kris, made in just two-and-a-half hours!

Improvisation Patchwork-1

She started a new bobbin at the beginning of the class and ran out during the class!  Crazy times!

I, meanwhile, made this much…

Which I’ve now moved to design wall in my studio and added in some other bits that I had laying about:

Improvisation Patchwork-3

That blueness is something I was playing with for no particular reason a few months ago.  Anyway, I’m thinking I’ll make more strip slabs (that’s how I think of them) and fill in the gaps!

Improvisation Patchwork-5

I’m loving how cheerful this quilt is!  Everything except the strawberries and the leprechaun green solid ended up in my quilt by the luck of the blind draw from the scrap box!

Improvisation Patchwork-4

If you are interested in the class and are in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area, I’ll be teaching it again at Pink Castle Fabrics on Saturday, September 21st.  10:15am-1:15pm.  $55 includes the fabric used in the class.  Sign up via Pink Castle Fabrics.

  1. Need to figure out how to do the commute! Air fares are a witch these days! Your designs are great, as are your colors. Keep up the great work of sharing your skills with others.
