QuiltCon & London: Exciting teaching announcements!

I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be teaching at QuiltCon 2015!

My class is based on my painted pebbles quilt (pictured below) and it covers two reverse applique methods.  My goal for my students in this class is to compare and contrast the process and the results for each method.  Knowing the methods opens up new possibilities and choices in quilt designs.  You can make your own painted pebbles quilt, to be sure, but you’ll also be able to make perfect circles and so much more!

I’m only teaching the one workshop, but I’ll be teaching it twice.  It’s a half-day class. I asked for a light teaching load so that I have time to breathe and have fun and relax and mingle and meet people while in Austin.

In order to find out workshop schedules and sign-up dates, sign up for the QuiltCon/Modern Quilt Guild newsletter.

I will also be giving a lecture!  My lecture is a cultural critique of the current copyright regime in the USA.  I know I don’t talk about it much here, but I am a lecturer at the University of Michigan. One of my regular offerings is a 4-month seminar for seniors called “Culture, Copyright, and Control.”  I love teaching that class. Copyright needs to be talked about by creators and cultural critics because we can shape the future of these laws.  The quilt industry is rather unique because there’s no central control the way there is with movies and music–there’s room here to do things differently and make our own culture.  Anyway:  more on this next February if you’re able to come!

One last note!

I’m teaching my Painted Pebbles class (described above) in LONDON, ENGLAND, UK next Tuesday May 13, 2014 6:30-9:30pm at the The Village Haberdashery.  When last I checked in with them, there were three spots left.  Get them while they’re hot!

The photo above is of my Aunt Gill and one of her lambs, it just seemed like an English thing to share (Gill and her sheep live in Gloucestershire).  I can’t wait to see them next week!

  1. I would have been very interested to hear your lecture (I am a novice quilter who once worked in publishing, including a stint in copyright). Any chance of posting the content at a later date?

    1. I'm sure I'll want to share whatever I can! Last QuiltCon they distributed recordings of some of the lectures; I haven't heard if the same will be happening again!

  2. Ooh, your lecture will definitely be on my list. Congrats on all of the good news and things that you are doing.

  3. Coincidentally I live in Gloucestershire and my name is Gill but no sheep, just cows and chickens!!
